What We Do

Youth always have a need to belong and they look for people who support their belonging. Adolescence, especially, is a time of internal and external conflict as youth strive for independence while searching for their own role within the context of community. Youth who are unable, or do not possess the skills, to positively or consistently meet their needs, such as belonging, often make choices to meet their needs in unhealthy ways.
The struggle to make positive choices can create a cycle of behaviour that is hard to change. Young people who have access to a supportive environment that embraces who they are and understands their struggles, have a higher probability of success. When young people feel understood, valued and connected, they gravitate towards healthier behaviours in order to meet their needs.
Through the use of strength-based interventions, Kalon Services NL provides a safe and therapeutic home-like environment that supports young people with intense complex needs, disabilities and disorders to explore their future and connect with their past in a positive and healing way. Our Kalon Services NL Treatment Team, consisting of Social Workers, Clinical coordinators, Child and Youth Care practitioners, and Family-based carers in collaboration with all other external professionals involved will assist the young person in finding ways to successfully navigate daily life events in a manner that creates opportunities to develop more positive futures.
